Until Dawn's PS4 gameplay trailer was revealed during Sony's press conference at Gamescom 2014 in Cologne, Germany.

The realistic gruesome details in the preview sent the obvious signal that this horror title is bound to be scarier than ever.

Supermassive Games' Pete Samuels shared some insights on the storyline.

"We wrote the story in collaboration with horror auteurs Larry Fessenden and Graham Reznick (Stake Land, Habit, The Last Winter) who've been bringing great independent horror movies to the big and small screen for decades.

Samuels continued, "That story challenges you to unravel the terrifying mysteries of Blackwood Pines. Look out for clues while we test your limits of fear but remember, things aren't always as they seem!"

This was not the first time that the game was introduced to a huge platform.

Until Dawn was initially unveiled at New York Comic Con 2012 exclusive for PS3, before it disappeared from the gaming scene and nothing was heard from the developer until the studio confirmed in May, 2013, that the game is still in the development.

According to Samuels, the team has re-designed, re-built and re-written the game to give players a more mature, darker and creepier experience.

"One of the first changes you'll notice, apart from how much more beautiful it now looks and sounds, is that we've moved from first person to third person perspective. This allows a much more cinematic experience for you, so you feel completely immersed in this beautiful but spine-chilling world," he said.

The developers utilized the Killzone Shadow Fall engine to control and balance cutting-edge animation with lighting and audio techniques.

Until Dawn features a stellar cast that breathes life to the rollercoaster emotions of the game. It includes Hayden Panettiere, Rami Malek and Brett Dalton.

The game is already available for pre-order for $59.99 via Sony Entertainment Network.

Until Dawn will be released exclusively for PS4 on December 31, 2015.
