Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 release date: Heiress to Hyuga Clan, Hanabi Hyuga, added as new playable character
The in-development 'Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4' will be adding a new playable character in the form of Hanabi Hyuga, the heiress to the Hyuga Clan. As reported in this article at Shonen Gamez, Hanabi will appear as her "The Last" version in contrast to her first appearance in 'Ultimate Ninja 3' where she was much younger.
Hanabi is the younger sister to former heiress-in-training Hinata, who was originally groomed to lead the clan but later ceded the role to the more talented Hanabi, as per their father's whims. Despite the tensions created by this decision, the two sisters remain close with Hanabi serving as Hinata's confidante when discussing the latter's feelings towards Naruto. During "The Last", Hanabi is shown attending Naruto and Hinata's wedding.
In other news, 'Ultimate Ninja Storm 4' will be adding a new feature called "Leader Swap". This feature allows players to change their lead character in the middle of battle with a pre-chosen support character. This mechanic was utilized to great effect in the Marvel vs Capcom fighting game series, but it is still unclear how the version in 'Ultimate Storm' will work. Whatever the case, this mechanic should improve the game's tactical depth if executed well.
In addition to the aforementioned content updates, a series of high-res conceptual artwork for the game was also revealed via an issue of V-Jump magazine. One of the screenshots showcases a huge story mode battle involving Team Seven against Ten Tails. The images can be viewed at this article at Gematsu.
An exact release date for the game has yet to be revealed, but the constant updates suggest that the game is on track with its current development. It is expected to be the last installment in the Ultimate Ninja video game series and will be released in next generation consoles such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A Microsoft Windows PC version is also expected to be released.
