The Good Wife season 6 spoilers: It's farewell to'The Good Wife' for Kalinda; what now for Alice?

(CBS/Facebook)

Following last night's topsy-turvy episode, the Good Wife's resident investigator Kalinda Sharma made her long-awaited final appearance on the show. The character, as portrayed by the Emmy Award winning actress Archie Panjabi, was set to be written off the show after the actress signed on for a different project that was to begin following her contract's expiration.

As reported late last year, Panjabi struck a developmental deal on a still unnamed project in which she will presumably have a larger role with 20th Century Fox. As stated by a 20th Century Fox representative Sharon Klein via an article at the Hollywood Reporter, "Archie is an Emmy Award-winning dramatic actress, and rightly so. Her work on The Good Wife has been extraordinary, and the time has come for her to star in a project of her own. We couldn't be happier that it will be with us."

Panjabi's character Kalinda had been one of the show's most recognizable characters as an enigmatic investigator with an unexplained past who featured as a deus ex machine of sorts for her law firm. Her departure on the 'Good Wife' was amicable enough and characteristic of Kalinda given the abrupt nature of her exit. The show will now lean more heavily on star Julianna Margulies as it navigates its way past a post-Kalinda environment.

For her part, Margulies own character Alice faces her own set of challenges as she was forced to resign from her post at the State Attorney's Office and made an unsuccessful attempt at returning to her previous law firm Lockhart, Agos, and Lee. Expect fireworks on the next episode of 'The Good Wife' as the season draws to a close.

'The Good Wife' is shown on CBS at Sundays 9/8c time. A preview video for the episode can be viewed at TvGuide via this link.
