Surface Pro 4 vs Surface Book: bigger rival beats Surface Pro 4
Microsoft is hoping that its Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book hybrid devices, which were released recently, will take the world by storm and that if pre-orders are taken into account, then they could be massive hits. Here is how these two devices fare in a comparison.
Design
On the Surface Book, there is a metal body and a full keyboard that is attached to it with the aid of a hinge. However, this hinge is versatile because the display can be detached and used like a tablet, or reattached with its back facing the keyboard to form a canvas which can be written or drawn on with the Surface Pen. The screen also has PixelSense technology which can automatically sense whether the users are employing the Pen or their fingers to draw on it. However, it is much heavier and bigger than its sibling the Surface Pro 4, which has a magnesium body. The smaller device is primarily a tablet and users have to buy the Type Cover keyboard for $129 if they want to convert it into a laptop. However, the price for both devices includes the Surface Pen, which has been redesigned and now has an eraser to remove digital content.
Display
When it comes to display size, the Surface Book is a winner as it has a 13.5 inch PixelSense version with a resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels and a density of 267 pixels per inch. As for the Surface Pro 4, it has a 12.3 inch PixelTouch display with a resolution of 2736 x 1824 pixels and a density of 267 pixels per inch.
Specs
There is the m3, i5, or i7 processor from Intel on the Surface Pro 4 while the Surface Book has the Core i5 or i7 processors from Intel.
Memory
The RAM of the Surface Pro 4 comes with 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB options, while the Surface Book has either 8GB or 16GB. As for onboard storage, the Surface Pro 4 starts at 128GB, and goes up to 1TB-- the same is true for its bigger sibling.
Price
Without its keyboard, the starting model of the Surface Pro 4 is priced at $899, while the cheapest Surface Book is priced at $1,499.
