Nothing like a good brawl among known characters to make a video game successful. That was the formula followed by Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U game, "Super Smash Bros." And with the game barely a year old, fans are getting new content via a new mode, as well as new costumes and new stages.

"Super Smash Bros." Japan announced via Twitter (and translated by Reddit) some of the major changes happening to both the Wii and 3DS versions of the game. According to the tweet, those in Japan will be getting the new tournament mode for Wii U today, July 31, while those in North America will have to wait for the same upgrade later in August.

The Tourney mode will put the rule-making in the hands of players when they fashion their own tournaments. Nintendo will also be making their own custom tournaments where gamers connected online can compete to be number one. Players who want to boast of their achievements may start uploading to YouTube a replay of their gameplay straight from their devices. The tourney Mode will be free.

Those with cash to spare may also avail of new of the paid DLC, which adds the Peach's Castle 64 and Hyrule Castle 64 stages. Gamers can buy the DLC for one console at ¥250 or the DS and Wii U bundle update for ¥350.

Mii Fighters will also have more outfits to choose from. Free starting today (at least in Japan) are a Smash Hoodie (Smash logo and flame-accented sleeves) paired with gray pants, a Chrom costume (a "faithful recreation" as described by the the tweet) and a King K. Rool costume (complete with a bulging eyeball and a crown). More Mii Fighter costumes will be released in the next few days.
