After 5 long years of waiting, news has been finally heard about the next Street Fighter series. During Sony's PlayStation Experience at Las Vegas in early December, it was announced that Street Fighter V will be released soon, brought by its game developer Capcom in partnership with Sony. The exact date is yet to be known.

The announcement came with a teaser trailer, showing Ryu and Chun-Li fighting. Some of the new things revealed by the trailer were new abilities for fighters, a Revenge meter, and EX meter. The trailer was also posted on PlayStation's official blog.

However, the game will be exclusively released on just two platforms: PlayStation 4 and PC, but there will also be cross-platform play. Adam Boyes, Sony's Vice President of Publisher and Developer Relations, confirmed this.

"PlayStation 4 will be the only console Street Fighter 5 ever appears on. We partnered with Capcom on the development of Street Fighter 5, we're working together to make Street Fighter the ideal game for console," Boyes said.

"What's even bigger news is that our partnership with Sony will result in SFV having cross-platform play, which will in turn unite our Street Fighter fans into one grand player base," PlayStation's official blog said.

Xbox fans are feeling a little left out. When asked on Twitter why Street Fighter V won't be coming to Xbox, Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's Xbox division, replied.

Some reports are saying that this might also be because Microsoft is not a big fan of cross-platform play.

Street Fighter V made use of the latest Unreal Engine 4, a very powerful game developing tool.

"Our goal with the next generation of Street Fighter is to take our beloved fighting game franchise and bring it to our fans in the best way possible," said Bochan Kim, Producer of Capcom, in a post on unrealengine.com

"In order to fully deliver on that promise, we know we have to incorporate the latest and greatest technology available, which is why we partnered with Epic Games to power Street Fighter V using Unreal Engine 4," he added.

Key people of involved companies are optimistic that they will not disappoint the fans, and they're keen to prove it.

"We know that the expectation level of fans is extremely high, so the support staff of both Epic Japan and Epic HQ have been providing dedicated support to help the team realize the very best performance from Unreal Engine 4 and deliver the highest quality experience to players," said Taka Kawasaki, Epic Games Japan's territory manager.
