'Sherlock' season 4 release date: new season to have four episodes, coming soon-sih, says executive producer
Fans might as well step into Sherlock Holmes' shows and do some investigative work to determine when the fourth season of BBC's "Sherlock" is hitting the small screens. Even during the Television Critics Association press tour, the show's executive producers have been very secretive and careful in dropping clues.
Those in attendance at the PBS panel for the Television Critics Association press tour were eager to know when Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will be back in the U.S. airwaves as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. But co-writer and co-executive producer, Steve Moffat, was careful in answering the question. Instead, Moffat answers with, "You can never have too much anticipation."
Truth is, the team is also unaware of exactly when the show is dropping for the fourth season. "Masterpiece" executive producer, Rebecca Eaton, explains, "We can't tell you when we're going to air it. We must follow the BBC broadcast, and the BBC has not set its airdate... We stand and wait. But it will be on PBS soon. Ish."
So, no definite release date just yet. But fans do get a huge good news from Moffat. Sherlock's fourth season will be four-episode long instead of the usual three.
The first of the full four episodes will be set in the Victorian era, as was already shown in an earlier trailer. Asked why the sudden time travel, USA Today quotes Moffat as saying, "We checked the books and discovered we got it wrong. We should have read them first. No, just because we can, really." He then later added, "We never bothered explaining what they were doing in modern London, so why bother explaining what they're doing in Victorian London, when that's where they're supposed to be?"
The Victorian-set episode was initially announced as a Christmas special but may also be part of the fourth season of "Sherlock."
