Although Apple did not release a new version of the iPad Air this year, last year's iPad Air 2 is still going strong. However, it is faced with new competitors, one of which is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7. Here is how these two devices compare.

Design

The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 uses a combination of metal and plastic for its body. Its frame is made of aluminum while its back panel has textured plastic, which makes it easier for users to hold. There is a fingerprint sensor on the device and it is available in gold, black and white. As for the iPad Air 2, it has a body made of aluminum, which gives it a premium appearance. The tablet comes in three colors, gray, gold and silver and it comes with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor. When it comes to weight, the iPad Air 2 is much heavier at 437 grams, as its competitor only weighs 389 grams.

Display

There is an IPS LCD screen measuring 9.7 inches on the iPad Air 2 and it has a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and a density of 264 pixels per inch. As for the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7, it has a 9.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and a density of 264 pixels per inch.

Specs

The device from Samsung has an Exynos 5433 chipset coupled with an octa-core CPU comprised of four cores clocked at 1.9 GHz and four clocked at 1.3 GHz. In the iPad Air 2 is an Apple A8X chipset, coupled with a CPU with three cores clocked at 1.5 GHz.

Memory

There is no microSD slot on the iPad Air 2, therefore external storage cannot be added. The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7, on the other hand, has a slot which allows for the addition of up to 128 GB. As for RAM, the device from Samsung has 3 GB while its competitor has 2 GB.

Price

The iPad Air 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 are both priced at $500.
