Samsung Galaxy A8 vs. HTC One (M8): Bigger Galaxy A8 finds it challenging to outdo its better designed rival

With a huge range of smartphones in its lineup, it is not surprising that Samsung has a great mid-range offering in the form of the Galaxy A8. But how does it compare with HTC's impressive One (M8)?

Design

When it comes to size, the Galaxy A8 is ahead as it is a phablet-sized device. It is very thin and comes with a metal body and a back panel made of plastic. It has a fingerprint sensor integrated into the home button located below the screen and it comes in three colors, gold, white and black. As for the One (M8), it has a full metal body and was, in fact, voted as one of the most beautiful smartphones released last year. It has round edges and gives off a premium look and feel. As for colors, there are three options to choose from, silver, gold and gunmetal gray.

Display

The display on the Galaxy A8 is bigger and consists of a 5.7-inch super AMOLED screen, with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 386 pixels per inch. As for its competitor, it has a 5.0-inch super LCD3 screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 441 pixels per inch.

Specs

When it comes to their hardware, both are equally fast. The One (M8) comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, coupled with a Krait 400 CPU with four cores clocked at 2.3 GHz and an Adreno 330 GPU. As for the Galaxy A8, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, coupled with an octa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz and four clocked at 1.3 GHz along with an Adreno 405 GPU.

Memory

When it comes to memory slots the version on each device can be used to add up to 128 GB of external storage. They are also similar in terms of RAM; both have 2 GB on board.

Price

The Samsung Galaxy A8 has a price tag of $510, unlocked, while the HTC One (M8) costs $199 with a two-year contract.
