The Oculus Rift virtual reality headset was revealed during a press conference in San Francisco on June 11 and along with it came news that it would be released in the first quarter of 2016. The device, which has been in development for three years, was taken over by Facebook and has since become a trending topic on Twitter.

In the press conference, which took place just a few days before the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Oculus provided more details about their headset and its controllers.

The headset will allow users to keep their glasses on and the space between optics for each eye can be adjusted to the comfort of the users. Also, the headset comes with microphones and a speaker to provide a complete virtual reality experience. And because it comes equipped with an Xbox One controller, users will also be able to stream games from the Xbox One console, plus its compatibility even extends to Windows 10.

The company also revealed that they are working on a pair of controllers called the Oculus Touch, which will allow people using the headset to interact with objects in virtual reality. These prototype wireless controllers dubbed the Half Moon are each composed of two buttons, an analog thumbstick, and a pair of triggers. Equipped with internal sensors, the controllers can interpret gestures made by users including waving or a doing a thumbs-up. When the Oculus Rift is working, these controllers will be tracked by the camera, which in turn tracks the headset to determine the movement of the wearer.

The Half Moon controllers will be available for pre-order along with the Oculus Rift package later this year, however they will only be released sometime after the headset launches next year.

Unfortunately, excited buyers of the headset will have to wait for the price of the whole package, which includes the Oculus Rift headset, a camera to track movements and an Xbox One controller which will come with a wireless adapter, as it has yet to be announced.

Though the pricing of the Oculus Rift package has not yet been revealed, it is expected to cost around $1500.
