After months of speculation, fans of Nintendo now seems to have their first glimpse of the possible new changes to their upcoming console, as the company has reportedly filed a patent for what is believed to be the new Nintendo NX.

According to IGN, Rosti, one of the users of NeoGaf, took note of the rough schematics of the said patent. One major element missing in the new console is its optical drive, suggesting that the new device will be loading up games via hard drive, while the games would be retrieved by downloading them online. Nintendo also cited that it would be also beneficially for its users as they need not purchase a "recording medium."

Forbes.com has also reported that the controller for the console is set to have a display screen, just like the controller for the Wii U console.

Though it is still in its early stages, if the company does plan on pushing through with the new patent, this would be the "wildly different" approach that CEO Satoru Iwata promised. In June, Iwata was still keeping quiet on updates of the Nintendo NX. The secrecy caused some investors to worry as they believed that the new NX would lessen the enhancements on current Nintendo consoles on the market. However, Iwata was quick to reassure them and said:

"We can't talk about the NX. If we do, competitors may take our ideas and customers won't be surprised, this would not be beneficial for the company or its shareholders. The NX is new hardware, and will start from 0. However, the 3DS and Wii U have install bases. Immediately cutting off software for previous hardware upon the release of a new machine is inefficient. We will continue making 3DS and Wii software while preparing for the NX. We are prioritizing satisfying customers who purchased the Wii U."

Nintendo has neither confirmed nor denied their patents for the upcoming Nintendo NX.
