Nintendo 3DS Amiibo Reader release date set for Sept. 25 with $20 price tag
Amiibos are slowly but surely proving to be the raft keeping the Nintendo devices afloat. Even older 3DS handsets can still enjoy these cute little things with a soon-to-be-released Amiibo Reader for the 3DS.
The future of the Nintendo Wii U may be a little hazy, with sales suffering versus Sony's and Microsoft's current-gen consoles. But its handheld counterpart, the 3DS, is faring really well, especially with the introduction of the Amiibo.
The good news is, gamers need not buy the newer 3DS to get this cute app on their device. Owners of older 3DS handsets can still enjoy the Amiibos through the Amiibo reader, set for release before the month ends.
But what is an Amiibo? It's an app which enables players to use unique figurines and cards on the 3DS, and also on the Wii, for supported games. They are very cute and interactive, so it's not a surprise that players have been clamoring for more. Though gameplay is not as affected as with regular DLCs, Amiibos still result to a fun gaming experience.
And Nintendo has surely been answering the clamor for more of these cute, fun things. A new batch of Amiibos is set to launch this Sept. 11. There will be six new ones coming out mid-month, with more expected to be released, along with the new 3DS system, before September ends.
Included in the Sept. 11 release are the limited edition 8-bit classic Super Mario, Browser Jr. in his Koopa Clown Car, and Dr. Mario.
Amiibos can only be directly used with the Wii U GamePad and the 2015 New Nintendo 3DS, but this does not leave out older versions of the handheld console. The new Amiibo Reader allows older versions of Nintendo's handheld device to interact with Amiibos, too.
The Amiibo Reader for the Nintendo 3DS will retail for only $20 — a really good investment especially if one does not intend to upgrade to the new system. The accessory serves as an NFC reader/writer and will allow access to all Amiibo features.
The Amiibo Reader for the Nintendo 3DS hits retailers on Sept. 25.
