Nexus Player release date, specs and pre-order details, temporarily delayed by FCC
Google is trying to invade the living room once again with the launch of Nexus Player, which showcases entertainment and gaming features in an all-black ensemble.
"The Nexus Player console is designed to fit beautifully alongside your current home entertainment setup," a portion of the product description stated.
The device also contains voice-activated remote that is a perfect companion for finding shows and playing casual games.
Hardcore Android gamers can purchase the Gamepad (made by Asus) for Google Nexus Player separately.
Google crafted the device in such a way that it would be seen as a contender in the market.
Nexus Player sports the following specifications: 1.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Atom chipset, Imagination PowerVR Series 6 Graphics, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal storage, HDMI out, Micro USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 4.1.
This smart entertainment system from the Mountain View-based tech giant was unwrapped alongside the Google Nexus 6 smartphone and Nexus 9 tablet last week.
Pre-order started briefly last Friday, but was momentarily halted until today (Oct. 20) due to technicalities. Apparently, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) had not yet approved the Asus-made device.
This prompted Google to fold up pre-orders shortly after it opened.
"This device has not been approved by the Federal Communications Commission. It is not for sale until approval of the FCC has been obtained," Google Play store explains.
A recent post on the FCC website however has confirmed that Google Nexus Player is already approved by the authority as of Oct. 19.
Pre-order of Google Nexus Player has now resumed at Google Play.
