"Minecraft" is staying true to its reputation as an educational game, good for use within the academe. Over the weekend, the sandbox survival game released a Greek mythology downloadable content.

Last July 24, "Minecraft" released the "Greek Mythology Mash-Up" pack that will allow players to fashion their Minecraft world after the Greek mythological world. They will also be allowed to take on various gods and goddesses, who have left Mount Olympus to take part in the Minecraft adventures. Some playable characters are Aphrodite, Athena, Hercules, Poseidon, and Zeus. Greek monsters Medusa and the Minotaur also make an appearance.

Also included in the "Greek Mythology Mash-Up" are a customized texture set plus 39 all-new skins and a new user interface. The pack also boosts an original Gareth Coker orchestral soundtrack. Gareth Coker is a famous film and games music composer, known for his works on the game "Ori and the Blind Forest" and the movie "Labyrinth."

The Greek mythology DLC has been announced at the Minecon 2015 and is now available for fans of the educational game to explore. Aside from giving the game a whole new look, the DLC will also deliver a few other items that gamers can enjoy. Acacia Wood and Dark Oak Wood are two unique items available now for use in the Creative Mode. A few bug fixes will also kick in as soon as the content has been downloaded.

Previous mash-ups for the "Minecraft" title revolved around other popular games. There have been DLCs that meshed the game with "Skyrim," Halo," and "Mass Effect." Others included holiday themes, like Halloween.

Mods are also available from the Minecraft community. These allow for more elements from other games to be added. The wide Minecraft modding community had successfully incorporated "Pokemon" and "The Hunger Games" into the Minecraft world.

"Minecraft: Greek Mythology Mash-Up" is available on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS Vita, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 for $3.99. A trial version is also available for free.
