Microsoft Surface Pro 4 release date and specs roundup: next gen may launch July with 12-inch and 14-inch versions
New details about the specs of the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 have now surfaced online. The Surface Pro is considered to be the ultimate laptop/hybrid tablet and there had earlier been rumors that the next Surface Pro 4 would be a huge leap from the current Surface Pro 3.
It had been earlier reported by TechAndPrince that Microsoft had fixed a release date of July 2015 for the Surface Pro 4 and would be announcing the launch date at a suitable event. Now, PCPro has reported specs of the Surface Pro 4, claiming that the device would be available in 12 inch and 14 inch models with a resolution of 2160 x 1440. According to PCPro, the Surface Pro 4 would have 16GB of RAM, which is double the 8GB of RAM in the current Surface Pro 3, and a maximum internal storage of 1TB.
PCPro further claims that Microsoft has decided to sacrifice efficiency for power in the Surface Pro 4 by switching from the Haswell dual-core i5 and i7 Intel processors to Intel's new Broadwell range of chips. This will lower the energy consumed by the Surface Pro 4 by about 30% as compared to the Surface Pro 3, but also reduce its power.
PCPro has also released specs about the rumored Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Mini, which it expects to be powered by an Intel Atom 64-bit processor. According to PCPro, not much is known about these processors, named Cherry Trail, but they are known to boost battery life, graphics, and performance. Cherry Trail allows users of low-end tablets to carry out more demanding tasks, such as playing, recording and editing high-end video, says PCPro.
Microsoft continues to maintain silence about the details and release of the Surface Pro 4. But the company's decision to recently slash prices of the Surface Pro 3 by $100 indicates that it could soon release the next-generation tablet.
