Microsoft Surface Pro 3 vs Macbook Air specs comparison: Which laptop takes the prize?

Microsoft is currently offering up to $650 to Macbook Air users that will swap it for the Surface Pro 3.
In what could be a brilliant tactic and a direct tirade to one of Apple's devices, Microsoft is giving hundreds to customers that will trade in a Macbook Air in decent condition for a Surface Pro 3.
The cheapest model is priced at $750, when you do the math, a Macbook Air owner would only need to cash out $100 more to purchase the brand-new device.
This promo ends in July 31 and is available in physical retail stores only.
Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 has been pitched as a laptop-tablet hybrid that carries a battle cry wrapped around three P's – power, portability and productivity.
Surface Pro 3 sports 12-inch screen, 2160x1440 resolution, battery life that can support up to 9 hours of browsing, 4th generation Intel Core (i3, i5 or i7), multi-touch display, 64GB or 128GB storage with 4GB RAM or 256GB or 512GB storage with 8GB RAM, 5.0 megapixel rear-facing camera, 5.0 megapixel front-facing camera, stereo speakers with Dolby sound and a variety of sensors.
This tablet-slash-laptop comes with a kickstand, Surface Pen, optional click-in keyboard and multiple ports such as microSD card reader, Mini DisplayPort and full-size USB 3.0).
Meanwhile, Macbook Air has two models – the 11-inch with battery life of up to 9 hours and 13-inch that can last up to 12 hours.
In general, Macbook Air carries the following specs: 1440 x 900 resolution display on the 13-inch model and 1366x768 on the 11-inch model, 128GB to 256GB PCIe-based storage, 1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5, 4GB of 1600MHz LPDDR3 onboard memory configurable to 8GB, 720p FaceTime HD Camera, 2 USB 3.0 ports, Thunderbolt port and MagSafe 2 power port and Bluetooth 4.0 technology.
This powerful laptop also has full-size backlit keyboard, multi-touch trackpad and LED-backlit glossy screen.
The 11-inch variant sells for $899 to $1,099 and the 13-inch model has a tag price of $999 to $1,199.
Microsoft and Apple's computers offer different experiences with Windows 8.1 vs Mac OS X Mavericks respectively, and thanks to different specs it is hard to decide a clear winner.
The Surface Pro 3 has the upper hand in versatility thanks to its high-res touch screen display, tablet form factor, and stylus, while the Macbook Air's greatest strengths lie in the FaceTime HD camera, Thunderbolt port and excellent battery life.
Depending on whether you prefer the Surface Pro 3's flexibility, or the more enduring power of the Macbook Air, both devices are great alternatives for users on the go.
