Micromax Canvas 5 news: Smartphone with 5.2-inch FHD display and 3 GB RAM now available for purchase

Micromax has launched its new flagship smartphone, the Canvas 5. It is now available for purchase in the Indian market for Rs, 11,990 or about $183. The Canvas 5 follows its predecessor, the Canvas 4, which was released back in 2013.

The Micromax Canvas 5 smartphone is an affordable device that doesnt scrimp on hardware specs. It features a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display with a 1080 x 1920 screen resolution and 423ppi pixel density. It comes with a 2.5D curved display with the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 panel for added protection. The display produces bright, vivid and detailed images. 

In terms of design, the device comes in a black color and features a sturdy metal side frame with a faux leather back panel. The lightweight smartphone is 8.3 mm thick.

The Canvas 5 is powered by an octa-core 1.3 GHz 64-bit MediaTek MT6753 processor, the Mali T720MP3 GPU and 3 GB of RAM. It also has 16 GB of internal storage but can be expanded up to 64 GB.

The device is equipped with 13 MP rear camera with phase detection autofocus and LED flash. The rear camera is able to focus images in just 0.2 seconds. The front-facing camera also comes with LED flash. The Picture in Picture feature also allows users to capture images from both cameras at the same time.

The SmartWake feature also allows users to launch their favorite apps from the locked screen by using gestures.

The Canvas 5 smartphone is a dual-SIM device with 4G LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity. It comes preloaded with the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS but Micromax has announced a planned upgrade to the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.

The device is backed by a 2,900 mAh battery that provides up to 275 hours standby or up to 10 hours talk time.

The Micromax Canvas 5 is set to compete with other affordable smartphones including the Xiaomi Mi 4i, Samsung Galaxy J5 and the Motorola Moto G (2015).
