Comparing the LG G4 against the HTC One M9, it is clear that both manufactures wanted their devices to be premium offerings but adopted different paths to achieve their goals. Here is how the two compare.

Design

The One M9 is undoubtedly one of the best looking smartphones in the world and comes with an aluminum unibody that is hand polished to a fine shine. Its body features rounded corners and in terms of colors it comes in a silver/gold combination, amber gold, gunmetal gray and a pink/gold combination. The G4 on the other hand has a plastic body with a slight curve extending from top to bottom dubbed the "SlimArc". It has gold or grey polycarbonate on its back panel and its white version is coated with ceramic paint. There are also optional leather back panels available which provide a premium look to the device and these are dyed in natural colors and can be swapped out with the default back panels.

Display

The display on the G4 is bigger and sharper, as it has an IPS LCD screen measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 538 pixels per inch. As for the One M9 it has a super LCD3 screen measuring 5.0 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 441 pixels per inch.

Specs

In terms of specs, the One M9 beats the G4 as it has the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, along with an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2 GHz and an Adreno 430 GPU. As for the G4 it opted not to use the Snapdragon 810 chipset and instead has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset, along with a hexa-core CPU with two cores clocked at 1.82 GHz and four clocked at 1.44 GHz and an Adreno 418 GPU.

Memory

When it comes to memory slots, both devices are similar as each allows for the addition of up to 128 GB of external storage. As for RAM, again both are similar with 3 GB each.

Camera

The 16 megapixel camera on the G4 is better as it has optical image stabilization which the 20 megapixel camera on the One M9 does not have.

Price

The HTC One M9 and the LG G4 each cost $199 with a two year contract.
