While the LG G4 is considered one of the best flagship phablets of the year, the much cheaper Asus ZenFone 2, which was recently released in the US, has been capturing the hearts and minds of tech-savvy users interested in budget devices. Here is how these two phablets compare.

Design

The LG G4 has a noticeable ergonomic curve running along the length of its body, which is made of plastic. For its back panel is a patterned polycarbonate in three colors grey, gold and white, which comes with a layer of ceramic coating. Although there are also several leather panels, which come in a variety of natural colors, available for those who prefer a classier look. As for the ZenFone 2, it also has a plastic body with a metallic shine which gives it a premium appearance. It comes in five colors, black, gold, grey, white and red.

Display

The displays on both devices are pretty equal in terms of size but the LG G4 wins in terms of quality as it has an IPS LCD screen measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 538 pixels per inch. On the ZenFone 2 is an IPS screen, 16M colors, measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 403 pixels per inch.

Specs

In terms of hardware, the ZenFone 2 has two models and its 4 GB version has an Intel Atom Z3580 chipset, a CPU with four cores clocked at 2.3 GHz and a PowerVR G6430 GPU. The LG G4 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset, a hexa-core CPU composed of two Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 1.82 GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.44 GHz and an Adreno 418 GPU.

Memory

Both devices have memory slots. The ZenFone 2 is capable of adding 64 GB of external storage while the LG G4 allows for the expansion of up to 128 GB. When it comes to RAM, the Asus ZenFone 2 has 4 GB or 2 GB, while the LG G4 has 3 GB.

Camera

The LG G4 has a 16 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, which outperforms the 13 megapixel camera of the ZenFone 2.

Price

The unlocked Asus ZenFone 2 with 4 GB RAM costs $299 while the LG G4, with a two-year contract costs $199.
