iPhone 6 vs. iPhone 5s: what are the differences between the two Apple devices?

Last year's iPhone 6 has become a really big hit and much of its appeal has been attributed to its bigger size. The iPhone 6, however, though similar to the iPhone 5s, is much pricier. Here is how it compares to its predecessor, the iPhone 5s.

Design

The iPhone 6 has an aluminum body with chamfered edges that give it a sleek and classy look. The iPhone 5s, which was the first smartphone from Apple equipped with the Touch ID fingerprint scanner, also has an aluminum unibody and curved edges, though it is noticeably smaller and much lighter than the iPhone 6.

Display

The iPhone 5s display is smaller. It comes with an IPS LCD screen measuring 4.0 inches with a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels and a density of 326 pixels per inch. As for the iPhone 6, it uses the same type of IPS LCD screen but bigger. Its display measures 4.7 inches with a resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels and a density of 326 pixels per inch.

Specs

The hardware on the iPhone 6 is better is of course better, given that it was released a year after the iPhone 5s. The iPhone 6 is equipped with an Apple A8 chipset, a Cyclone CPU with two cores clocked at 1.4 GHz and a PowerVR GX6450 GPU. The iPhone 5s, however, uses an Apple A7 chipset, a Cyclone CPU with two cores clocked at 1.3 GHz and a PowerVR G6430 GPU.

Memory

Both devices do not have memory slots and so external storage cannot be added. In terms of RAM, each has 1 GB.

Camera

The cameras on both phones are extremely similar. Each has a 8 megapixel rear camera and  1.2 megapixel front camera.

Price

The 16 GB iPhone 5s is cheaper as it was released in September of 2013. It is now priced at $99 while the 16 GB iPhone 6 is priced at $199 with a similar contract.
