There is a new tablet in town in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and it is proving to be a tough device to beat as it has the specs to overwhelm Apple's iPad Mini 3. Here is how these two terrific tablets compare.

Design

When it comes to design, the tablet from Apple has a premium look as it comes with a full metal body and rounded edges which give it a sophisticated look. As for colors, the device has three options, gray, silver and gold. It also has a touch-based fingerprint scanner — a feature which is also present on the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0.

The device from Samsung looks a lot like the iPad Mini 3. It has a metal frame but its back is made of plastic which reduces its overall weight to just around 265 grams, making it lighter than its competitor. In terms of colors, the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 only has two options, black and white.

Display

Comparing their displays, the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 has a super AMOLED screen measuring 8.0 inches with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and a density of 320 pixels per inch while the iPad Mini 3 has an IPS LCD screen measuring 7.9 inches with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and a density of 324 pixels per inch.

Specs

The hardware on the iPad Mini 3 is already a bit outdated as it was released last year. The Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is certainly faster as it comes with a an octa-core CPU composed of four cores clocked at 1.9GHz and four cores clocked at 1.3 GHz. The iPad Mini 3, on the other hand, has an Apple A7 chipset, a Cyclone CPU with two cores clocked at 1.3GHz and a PowerVR G6430 GPU.

Memory

Much like other devices from Apple, the iPad Mini 3 does not have a memory slot and as for RAM, it has 1 GB onboard. The Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is a good option for tablet users looking for a bigger memory as its slot can be used to add up to 128 GB of external storage. In addition, it has 3 GB of RAM.

Camera

There is an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 2.1 megapixel front camera on the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 while the iPad Mini 3 has a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 1.2 megapixel front camera.

Price

The price of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is expected to be revealed soon, on the other hand, the iPad Mini 3 costs $400.
