iPad Mini 3 vs Galaxy Tab S 8.4 – For $400 a piece, the Galaxy Tab has more specs for the bucks

Last year Apple released the iPad Mini 3 and it soon got a lot of competition from other devices like the Galaxy Tab S 8.4. Here is how the feature laden device from Samsung stands up to the premium device from Apple.

Design

The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is mostly made of plastic and its back panel has faux leather with dimples, but this combination allows for it to be easily held and used. While the iPad Mini 3 has all the features of a premium Apple device including a metal unibody and rounded edges. In terms of colors, the device form Apple has three options silver, space grey and gold, while the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 comes in white and bronze. When it comes to weight however, the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is lighter than its competitor. Finally both devices have fingerprint scanners.

Display

The iPad Mini 3 comes with an IPS LCD screen measuring 7.9 inches with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and density of 324 pixels per inch, while the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 has a super AMOLED screen measuring 8.4 inches with a resolution of 1600 x 2560 pixels and density of 359 pixels per inch.

Specs

Onboard the iPad Mini 3 is an Apple A7 chipset, a CPU with two cores clocked at 1.3 GHz and a PowerVR G6430 GPU, while the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 has an Exynos 5 Octa 5420 chipset, an octa-core CPU composed of four Cortex-A15 cores clocked at 1.9 GHz and four Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.3 GHz and a Mali-T628 MP6 GPU.

Memory

The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 has a memory slot and so external storage of up to 128 GB can be added, while the iPad Mini 3 has no such slot. As for RAM, the iPad Mini 3 has 1 GB while the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 has 3 GB.

Price

The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and the iPad Mini 3 are each priced at $400.
