Google has another winner in the form of the Nexus 5X. However, other devices like the Galaxy S6 Active, which was released earlier, have their own advantages and make them serious competitors. Here is how these two devices fare in a comparison.

Design

Upon first look, it is clear that the S6 Active does not have any metal on it but instead, it has a body created from plastic and rubber and it has a camouflaged coating in white or blue, but there is a plain gray version also. The device also has heavier plastic on its sides and this study build makes it waterproof and dust resistant, with an IP68 rating which means it can remain under 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes. It also has a MIL-STD-810G certification , which makes it resistant to thermal shock, rain, dust, and solar radiation. As for the Nexus 5X, it has a full plastic body that is created from polycarbonate. In spite of this cheap build, it feels good in hand. As for colors, there are three to choose from: ice, carbon and quartz. One major difference between these devices is that the Nexus 5X has a fingerprint scanner, which is not present on the S6 Active.

Display

When it comes to display size, both devices are similar but the S6 Active has better quality. The device from Samsung comes with a super AMOLED screen measuring 5.1 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 576 pixels per inch, while its competitor has a capacitive screen measuring 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and density of 424 pixels per inch.

Specs

Comparing hardware, the S6 Active is miles ahead as it has the latest Exynos 7420 chipset from Samsung, coupled with an octa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.1 GHz along with a Mali-T760 GPU. As for the Nexus 5X it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset coupled with a hexa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.44 GHz and two Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 1.82 GHz along with an Adreno 418 GPU.

Memory

There is no memory slot on each device and external storage cannot be tacked on. As for the RAM, there is a 3 GB on the S6 Active while the Nexus 5X has 2 GB.

Price

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is priced at $199 with a two year contract, while the Google Nexus 5X has a price tag of $380 unlocked.
