'Doctor Who' season 9 spoiler: Episode 2 'The Witch's Familiar' reviewed; two-part premiere is as exciting as a season finale
The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) has yet to pilot his ninth season on the small screen but the new season is already promising to be an exciting one. Those who have seen the second half of the two-part season premiere for "Doctor Who" have nothing but raves for it.
Den of Geek previewed "The Witch's Familiar," the second episode in "Doctor Who" season nine. They only had two kinds of news: the good and the really good news.
The good news is, if fans turn out to love episode one, titled, "The Magician's Apprentice," which they are bound to, as evidenced by those who have seen the preview, then they will love episode two even more. This is because it rightly picks up from the cliff-hanger momentum of the first episode.
The site let it slip that the two-parter will be isolated on a single planet, making the first two episodes as intense as a two-starrer theater play. In the simplest of plots, the episode has managed to mix the old and the new, giving Whovians a modern insight on an enemy, whom everyone has known for a long time.
But what really made episode two, or the two-part premiere as a whole, really remarkable is the fact that it is as exciting as a season finale without the prospect of a painful wait for a new season. After a shocking opener, fans will get to look forward to ten more episodes plus a Christmas special.
Aside from the Twelfth Doctor, fans will surely be delighted on how his companion, Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) and long-time friend and rival, Missy (Michelle Gomez), will support the plot of the new season. Their three-way tandem will eventually tie some loose ends and open up new mysteries.
Watch the last Time Lord's latest adventure when "Doctor Who" returns for season nine this Sept. 19. "The Witch's Familiar" airs on the 26th.
