Chromebook Pixel vs. Apple MacBook: Differences lie in weight, resolution and looks

Google's new Chromebook Pixel and Apple MacBook were announced just days apart, but both machines are different and innovative in their own way. The MacBook is all about economy and portability, while the Chromebook Pixel exemplifies the power of the cloud. Let's see how the two stack up against each other.
Design: Weighing just 2 pounds and measuring 0.51 inches thick, the new MacBook's extremely thin and simplistic design makes it look stunningly beautiful. The Chromebook Pixel, measuring 0.6 by 11.7 by 8.8 inches (HWD) and weighing 3.3 pounds, is more bulky and heavy, while its defined edges and corners make its design look more industrial and less classy.
Display: The new MacBook features a 12-inch 2304×1440 LCD Retina Display, as against a slightly larger 12.85-inch 3:2 aspect ratio touchscreen with a whopping resolution of 2560×1700 in the Chromebook Pixel.
Ports: The new MacBook provides only one single USB Type-C port that supports charging, as well as HDMI, VGA, and standard USB connections. On the other hand, the Chromebook Pixel has two USB Type-C ports, two standard USB 3.0 ports, and an SD card reader, providing much more versatility to users.
Processing Power: The new MacBook uses a Core M processor that has allowed it to do away with the fan from the computer, resulting in a much slimmer and lighter device. The Chromebook Pixel is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor in the base model (a more expensive model is available with Core i7), lending it much greater horsepower.
Storage and Memory: Both the new MacBook and the Chromebook Pixel offer 8 GB of RAM, though the former offers 256 GB of solid state storage, while the latter comes with just 32 GB of flash storage. But that is compensated by Google Drive's applications and other online solutions allowing documents, photos and videos to be stored on the cloud.
Battery life: The new MacBook claims to have nine hours of battery life, as its Core M processor does not require much power and a tiny logic board leaves space for a larger battery. The Chromebook Pixel is reported to have 12 hours of usage, as it runs on the stripped-down Chrome operating system that shifts most of the processing load off of the device and onto the cloud.
Price: The new MacBook starts at $1,299, while the Chromebook Pixel starts at $999.
