'Boruto: The Naruto Movie' releasing in Japanese theaters later this year

The Naruto universe will live on as creator Masashi Kishimoto is now working on a spin-off following the hugely successful 'The Last: Naruto the Movie', which posted record sales for the anime franchise. 'The Last' was supposed to be Naruto's swan song, but, as it turns out, there's more story to be explored in the Naruto universe.

The spin-off movie will be titled 'Boruto: The Naruto Movie' and will be based on Naruto and Hinata's son Boruto. A tentative release date has been set for August later this year where it will be shown on Japanese theaters. No word yet on when it will be imported to other countries.

Other details regarding the movie have yet to be confirmed officially, but a report from Anime News Network speculates that Bolt will be joined by Sarada, the daughter of Haruno Sakura and Uchiha Sasuke. That would make a lot of sense as this spin-off ushers in the next generation of Naruto characters, and the potential addition of Sarada should create a reimagined dynamic akin to that of their parents.

For his part, Kishimoto revealed that he has conceived a story in which Boruto and Sarada will appear, but if that particular story will happen in the movie spin-off, he did not say. Still, with Boruto confirmed for the movie and Sarada most likely soon to be confirmed, rumors are already swirling on a potential romantic relationship between the two characters.

Kishimoto also mentioned that he is hard at work in developing the characters that will appear in 'Boruto' but specific details such as Boruto's fighting technique have yet to be confirmed. Other characters that will accompany Boruto and Sarada are also on the horizon.

Regardless of how things turn out, Naruto fans should be plenty happy with these developments.
