2017 Volvo V90 news: Feb. 18 unveiling for wagon with S90 design cues

(Volvo)The upcoming V90 wagon will be based on Volvo's Concept Estate

On a special press event this Feb. 18, Volvo will finally officially introduce the 2017 V90 wagon. Following its introduction, the wagon will make its public debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show this March. Mere days before its unveiling, however, official photos have already been leaked onto the Internet providing the first look into Volvo's luxury wagon.

The 2017 V90 is based on the Volvo Concept Estate unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The upcoming wagon also builds on the brand's expansive history which started with the 1953 Volvo Duett. Since then, the brand has sold over 6 million wagons worldwide solidifying its reputation in the wagon segment.

"We have provenance in the estate segment. In many people's minds we are known as the definitive estate brand. While the Volvo brand stands for much more than just wagon, we will proudly carry forward this rich heritage with the V90," said Håkan Samuelsson, chief executive at Volvo Cars.

The 2017 Volvo V90 wagon will be built using the same Scalable Product Architecture that is used by its siblings, the XC90 SUV and S90 sedan. Volvo already introduced the S90 last January at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show.

In terms of design, the 2017 Volvo V90 is expected to offer the same design language as the S90 but in wagon form. The 2017 V90 will also feature distinct taillights. According to Autocar, the wagon will also feature the same powertrain options as the XC90, including the 394-horsepower T8 Twin Engine.

When released, the 2017 V90 Wagon will be competing with the BMW 5 Series Touring, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon and the Audi A6 Avant.

While its release date has not yet been confirmed, it is believed that the 2017 Volv0 V90 will be available to purchase during the second half of 2016. More details will be released during its official launch. Stay tuned for the latest coverage on the 2017 V90 wagon.
