Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 and Mi Band 2 may arrive on Oct. 19 instead of Mi 5
When Xiaomi announced earlier this week that it was holding a press event next week, Oct. 19, many thought that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer would finally unveil the much delayed Mi 5 smartphone. However, since then the company has hinted that other devices will be showcased and the smartphone pushed to a later date. This has opened the possibility of the Mi Pad 2 launching along with the Mi Band 2, instead of the phone.
Android Headlines states that when quizzed about the possibility of the Mi 5 being unveiled in the October 19th event, the President of Xiaomi, Lin Bin, explained that they were not planning to release any smartphone, notebook or watch. While this could rule out the appearance of the Mi Band 2 even though it is a fitness tracker and not a watch there is no word on the appearance of the Mi Pad 2.
Both the Mi Band 2 and Mi Pad 2 are due for a refresh as both were released by Xiaomi over a year ago. However, the Chinese manufacturer which currently occupies the number one slot in its home country when it comes to smartphone OEMs by sales has been playing a waiting game, and has also not brought out the Mi 5 even though the Mi 4 is over a year old.
Importantly, the first generation Mi Band turned out to be a successful product for the company and many were expecting it to be refreshed this year. Meanwhile, last month Mi Pad 2 was spotted passing through the 3C Certification website in China and at that point in time, it was rumored to have the Windows 10 operating system. GSMArena also stated that whenever Xiaomi plans to introduce a new device it teases it ahead of the launch, and this has not happened in the case of the Mi Pad 2. After Bin's statement many are however under the impression that new devices for gaming will be announced.
