WWE Battleground 2016 rumors: Dean Ambrose to lose WWE world heavyweight title?
In a few days, Dean Ambrose will defend his World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) world heavyweight championship at "Battleground" in a Triple Threat match and he might end up losing the belt.
Ambrose is facing a daunting challenge at "Battleground" taking on Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, his former brothers in The Shield.
Last month at "Money in the Bank," Ambrose captured the title by cashing in his "Money in the Bank" briefcase. Since then, both Reigns and Rollins have started their path to regain the belt.
All of this will conclude at "Battleground," and according to a rumor, there was a plan for Ambrose to drop the title, but that could have been altered since the potential outcome was made before Roman Reigns' 30-day suspension.
Currently, Ambrose and Rollins are the only ones trying to progress the storyline for the championship. Reigns is out, serving the ban slapped by the WWE for violating the company's wellness policy.
However, Reigns will still compete at "Battleground" because by July 24, the sanction is no longer in effect.
If it is true that Ambrose is set to be defeated, it will appear that he was just a transitional champion and this will likely disappoint a lot of fans, especially if the one taking the belt is Reigns, who always divides the crowd.
Once the WWE pushes with the rumored plan, the main event for this year's "SummerSlam" could be a championship match between Reigns and Rollins with Ambrose out of the picture, because by then, he would have served his role as a temporary titleholder.
As of the moment, there are seven confirmed matches for "Battleground" including two more title bouts aside from the world heavyweight championship match. It can be expected that a few more contests will be added.
