Windows 8.2 release date could be autumn; cloud-based Windows 9 to follow suit

Windows 8

Russian pirate group, WZOR, has struck again by releasing the latest details about Windows 8.2, the next Microsoft OS update.

WZOR revealed that the second major update for Windows 8.1 could be released in autumn. It also said that Microsoft hasn't decided on the name for the update. It might be called Windows 8.1 Update 2 or just Windows 8.2.

This update will feature a new Start Menu revealed at the recent Microsoft Build 2014 conference in San Francisco. The new nostalgic Start Menu will enable users to search through a list of their programs.

The update will also retain some of the Metro aesthetic and its integrated live tiles. These live tiles will launch programs and provide updated information about the weather, for example.

Previous rumors said the much-awaited Start Menu might come with Windows 9. On the other hand, WZOR claims it's going to be included in the next Windows 8.1 update.

The Start Menu will also be present in Windows 9 and will be available on devices with or without touch screens. It could be a component of the next generation Metro interface expected to debut with Windows 9. WZOR said Windows 9 might be available as a free update but hasn't been able to confirm this as yet.

An even more intriguing revelation by WZOR is that Microsoft is working on Windows Cloud, a cloud based operating system.

WZOR speculates that the client software for Windows Cloud will be available for free download but will require a subscription. This was the same ploy Microsoft recently used when it announced a "free" download for MSOffice for the iPad. The core of the Windows Cloud OS probably resides in the system's BIOS and operates similar to Microsoft's budget Windows Starter package.
