iPad Mini 5 release date, specs: tablet to be waterproof?

(Apple)A new version of iPad mini, the iPad Mini 5, is expected to drop before the year ends or in the first quarter of 2017. It is believed to look similar to its predecessor, the iPad mini 4 (picture above), but with enhanced performance.

Speculations about the upcoming iPad mini 5 have been going around for some time now and, though Apple has yet to launch the gadget, many reports about the specs and features have already come out. With the recent launch of iPhone 7, many are wondering how much of its specs will be in the iPad mini 5, especially the waterproof feature.

iPad mini 5 is just one of the other gadgets the market has been waiting to see during Apple's September launch. However, the concentration of the event was on the iPhone 7 and Apple watches that almost immediately captured the fancy of the consumers.

There are some more Apple events expected to happen before the year ends and, in one of those events, the iPad mini 5 is believed to be unveiled, but many also believe the gadget will not be released until 2017. With the recent gadgets enjoying the iOS 10 performance, all the other upcoming gadgets are expected to be built with the same operating system.

Other features from the iPhone 7 expected to be introduced in future gadgets as well are the improved cameras, battery life, and display. But what many are most excited about is the splash and water-resistance feature of the iPhone 7.

MacWorld has gathered some of the rumored specs and features of the upcoming iPad mini 5,  which may or may not show significant physical changes from its predecessor, the iPad mini 4. Apple products are known for their slim design, and speculations are rife that iPad mini 5 could be even thinner at only 5 mm thick.

It is also speculated to have a 3D Touch pressure-sensitive screen, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and 1.2-megapixel front camera. It is also rumored to be built with A9 processor with at least three variants depending on the internal memory capacity.

For now, all news should be taken with a grain of salt and just wait for Apple to finally introduce its product.
