'True Detective' season 3 renewal: Fans still expecting new season from HBO
While it is true that news and updates have been scarce, it is believed that HBO's "True Detective" will still have a third season run, even if it may take a while before the series returns. Many find that another season of "True Detective" could still provide value for the crime-drama genre.
Despite what seemed to be a rushed second season and the deafening silence that followed its run, there are still fans who faithfully believe that there will be another season for the said HBO series. After all, the silence could just mean that the people involved in making "True Detective" would rather have everything kept under wraps at this point in time.
According to Variety, "True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto is still very much involved with HBO and it is very likely that he and the network are in the process of discussing the next season of "True Detective." However, it's also possible that he may be working on a different project with the network. Other reports suggest that things may have already been finalized, but HBO is just not willing to share the details just yet.
Last April, many fans of the show panicked when HBO advertised its streaming services and listed "True Detective" as part of its "Complete Series." With the ad, many were left asking if the series was already canceled without prior notice from HBO. However, there were some who thought otherwise, pointing out that the said advertisement only featured clips from season 2. Hence, avid viewers of the show consoled themselves by thinking that it could be possible that HBO referred only to the show as "complete," in terms of seasons.
Fervent viewers of "True Detective" are not giving up hope that the show will have a third season run. Many are hoping that, perhaps, HBO will make the announcement after everything about the new season — including the cast, the plot, and the premiere date — has been settled.
As to when that will happen, if ever it does, only time will tell.
