'Transformers: The Last Knight' release date in June 2017; Liam Garrigan to play King Arthur

(Facebook/transformersmovie)"Transformers: The Last Knight" is set to be released on June 23, 2017.

It is widely known that the fifth installment to the "Transformers" franchise is titled "Transformers: The Last Knight" and is set to premiere on June 23, 2017. However, it was not entirely clear whether the story would have something to do with the famed Arthurian legend. Now, the assumption has all been seemingly confirmed as reports have it that a casting for King Arthur himself is already in the works.

According to an exclusive report from Mashable, Liam Garrigan has been tapped to bring the role to life. Coincidentally, Garrigan portrays the same character on ABC's fairytale series "Once Upon a Time." It seems that the actor is quite suited for the role, especially now that he has had some experience in playing Arthur.

Many were in shock when news broke out of the next "Transformers" sequel incorporating the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. A handful of questions were thrown but remained unanswered. However, it would seem that photos from the set of the film's production may ultimately confirm an oft-debated detail of the sequel.

BBC has published photos showing cast members dressed in medieval attire and riding horses. The snaps were taken at the filming location of the movie, which is at the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Based on these photos alone, it may be safe to assume that a part of the film could be set in the medieval period. Seeing as Mark Wahlberg, who starred in "Transformers: Age of Extinction," is set to reprise his role, the film could predominantly be set in modern times.

Additionally, the role of Merlin has already been cast. Santiago Cabrera has been tapped to play the famous wizard. Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and Sir Anthony Hopkins are also set to appear in the film.

It is not yet known how King Arthur and Merlin will affect the story of the Autobots and Decepticons, but fans can rest assured that this won't be the last time they'll get to see the transforming vehicles. A sixth installment is in the works and set to be released sometime in June 2019.
