Michael Bay fans would be happy to know that despite initial reports, the director is reportedly coming back to the "Transformers" franchise and will start helming the next flick once he is done with his latest project.

Rumors have been rampant that the "Armageddon" director will not be back for the next movie but a member of the writing team has more or less confirmed that both Bay and star, Mark Wahlberg, are onboard for the franchise's next installation.

Wahlberg himself let slip that Bay is coming back. In an interview with "Collider," the former rapper said that he does not know how the next "Transformers" movie will play out but that "those guys (the writers) are starting to write and break stories." He then pointed out that both he and Bay were busy with their individual projects but that they'll "get together when he gets back."

The "Transformers" writing team has indeed been shored up and given a tremendous boost with the inclusion of several heavyweights like "The Walking Dead's" Robert Kirkman and "Iron Man's" Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, among others. The writing team has allegedly been hard at work to ensure that everything's ready by the time that Bay finishes shooting the movie, "Benghazi."

And now that the trailer for "13 Hours: The Soldiers of Benghazi" has been released, it is safe to say that the 50-year-old filmmaker will soon be seen in the director's chair of "Transformers 5."

The writers have so far kept mum about the plot of the next "Transformers" movie, but there has been some intense speculation that the Autobot's beloved leader, Optimus Prime, will be killed off while Ultra Magnus and Unicron are set to be introduced. It is unclear how these rumors started but based on the animated "Transformers" movie, if Unicron is coming then Optimus is indeed set to perish at the hands of Megatron/Galvatron.

"Transformers 5" is expected to be released in 2017.
