'Thor: Ragnarok' cast news, spoilers: Cate Blanchett delivers 'amazing' performance
"Thor: Ragnarok" isn't scheduled to premiere until next year, but there's already a lot of buzz surrounding the third "Thor" film, especially with the list of cast members it's boasting. A particularly interesting cast member is Cate Blanchett, who plays Hela, goddess of the Asgardian underworld.
Many fans believe that Hela will not only be the goddess of the Asgardian underworld but also the ultimate goddess of death in the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe. Based on that theory, Hela may be the female that Thanos will try to win over, which will lead to the Infinity War. However, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige played coy in an interview with Vulture earlier this month when he was asked of Blanchett's involvement in "Avengers: Infinity War."
"Anything is possible, but knowledge of the comics can be both beneficial to fans anticipating things, and also misleading. So you'll have to see," said Feige.
He went on to say that he was thrilled about Blanchett's participation in "Thor: Ragnarok," praising her performance.
"I would be psyched if I were you. Put it this way: Her part is wrapped, and we haven't done any effects yet," he said. "Even without any effects at all — I'm talking dots on her costume, and green screen — it's amazing."
A two-time Academy Award winner for her acting work, Marvel certainly landed a big name in Blanchett. But her acting won't be the only thing that will send shivers down any fan's spine. In October, Blanchett's stunt double, Zoe Bell, was seen performing impressive stunts on the set of "Thor: Ragnarok." Bell did numerous flips in the Queensland heat and her stunts will definitely add to Blanchett's performance.
Joining Blanchett are Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki). Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins are also set to reprise their roles as Heimdall and Odin, respectively. Tessa Thompson will be playing the role of Valkyrie, an Asgardian warrior and Thor's new love interest. Jeff Goldblum and Karl Urban also respectively star as Grandmaster and Skurge. It was previously revealed that Benedict Cumberbatch, who recently made his debut as Doctor Strange, will be assisting Thor in finding his father, Odin. This much was revealed in the "Doctor Strange" mid-credits scene.
"Thor: Ragnarok" will hit theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
