'The Walking Dead' news: 'Vikings' star Kevin Durand being lined up for the role of Negan?
Now that Rick's group is already in Alexandria, "Walking Dead" fans are wondering which baddie Rick, Daryl, Carol, Glenn and the rest will be going up against this time around. The Wolves have been heavily hinted but as always, Negan's name inevitably came up.
The character, who is almost universally hated, is a particularly cruel piece of work responsible for killing an important member of Rick's group. And speculations about who will be perfect for the role have been going on for years now.
One name that has been bandied about recently is that of "Vikings" actor, Kevin Durand. Rumors have been rampant that the 41-year-old Canadian actor will be playing Negan. But as it turns out, the rumors were just that – rumors.
Durand addressed the issue during a recent Reddit AMA where he was asked if he would be playing the character. The "Lost" alum revealed that there is no truth to the rumors that he had been offered the role but said that a lot of "Walking Dead" fans have been asking him about playing Negan.
Durand is known for capably portraying very forceful characters, like that of Gabriel in "Legion" so it is easier to see why people thought of him for the role. However, the actor basically does not have the time to take on the character.
Durand admitted that shooting the FX series "The Strain" and being part of History Channel's "Vikings" eat up most of his time.
"If they didn't bring Negan in for like another three years then I would be honored," he says. "And I'm honored that the "Walking Dead" fans have me in mind, but at this point in time the Vampocalypse is keeping me in Fet."
While "The Walking Dead" creator, Robert Kirkman, has assured fans that Negan is not making an appearance next season, the character is definitely in the cards. The 36-year-old writer also pointed out to fans that the character would not be slipped in the show casually; people would definitely know if Negan's storyline is already in the horizon.
