(Facebook/TheStrainFX)"The Strain" season 3 will see a surprising twist that may change the story.

"The Strain" season 3 has a lot in store for viewers. The upcoming season's story will take place in the city that never sleeps and has a ton of surprising twists that fans won't see coming.

This much was revealed when executive producer Chuck Hogan spoke to TVLine at the Television Critics Association Press Tour. "There are some new character combinations," Hogan teased. "Some people come together and join force who I don't think anyone really expect." The EP also expressed his excitement about the new season, saying that it's going to be fun to watch.

Additionally, Hogan revealed that the third season of the FX horror drama series will boast "some amazing effects," outperforming the previous seasons for sure. Story-wise, there will be something that will blindside viewers of the show. The twist will come in the third episode, described as "a major story turn," which will result in "an interesting direction" that will guide the rest of the season.

Apart from that, fans should also gear up for a wild season finale as Hogan described it as "pretty intense." The anticipation is only building up. Fans are already excited to see what the new season will bring, even without all the teasers.

More character development can also be expected as it was revealed that the past of both Quinlan (Rupert Penry-Jones) and Eichors (Richard Sammel) will be highlighted.

As for the future of the series, showrunner Carlton Cuse said that it's impossible to tell whether the show will continue with more seasons as of now. "It's just too early to be definitive about that, but we are definitely moving towards an ending, and that's great.... We're being totally open-minded about it, for sure," he said.

The third season will be set in New York City, which will serve as a battleground against the strigoi. The city has been closed, marked by the government, and residents of the Big Apple will have to fight for themselves to make it out alive.

"The Strain" season 3 will premiere on Aug. 28 on FX.
