After almost a year of waiting, fans of FX's "The Strain" only have a few months left of waiting to go. Season 3 will see New York descend into utter chaos as legions of strigoi attack the city.

A synopsis for the premiere episode of season 3 has been released, and although it sets up quite a vague description of what one can expect, it still manages to turn things up. The synopsis reads: "Beset by personal conflicts — betrayal, disappointment, paranoia — our group is splintering."

A trailer has also been released for the third season and it sees New York in a huge uproar. The police are trying to contain everything as much as they can, but the strigoi are far too capable. And as if being attacked isn't enough, the group will also be dealing with problems of their own. Smoke can be seen emanating from different parts of the city. Roads are empty, people are trying to survive, and a huge mass of strigoi can be seen making their way through the city streets.

"Paranoia has reached every corner of the globe," a voice states. "If we have any hope of defeating this plague, it has to happen now – or never."

Packed with a ton of action and an intense soundtrack, the trailer offers up many things to look forward to in the new season.

Now that the strain has spread throughout the world, it is apparent that it will take a lot more to contain and cure it. And even though season 3 will only have 10 episodes – compared to the first two seasons with 13 each – it is expected that the shortened season will allow for a more packed storyline. Many fans were disappointed with how the plot developed in season 2. A few plot points seemed forced and unnecessary, so the decreased number of episodes this season certainly comes as good news.

"The Strain" season 3 will premiere on Sunday, Aug. 28 on FX.
