Following months of waiting for big news about the fourth season of "The Originals," the premiere date of March 2017 has finally been announced and the highly anticipated "The Vampire Diaries" crossover has been confirmed.

It has been announced that "The Originals" season 4 will premiere March 17 on The CW, just a week after "The Vampire Diaries" airs its series finale.

Aside from the much-awaited announcement about the fourth installment's air date, TVLine confirms that the rumored "TVD" crossover will finally happen, as a gift to viewers who followed both shows from the beginning.

According to the outlet, "The Originals" season 4 episode 8 will see the appearance of Alaric (Matthew Davis), who is currently very busy these days trying to save Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) from Sybil (Nathalie Kelley).

Aside from helping out in the hopes of keeping Damon from forever being tied to evil, Alaric is also struggling with his personal life. Sybil has his twins who he shares with Caroline (Candice King). Will his visit to New Orleans help at all?

Alaric will deliver an artifact to Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and it can be safe to assume that this artifact was the one he discovered earlier in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. How will this artifact help the Mikaelsons and how is it connected to Alaric and his people over in Mystic Falls?

Meanwhile, fans should look forward to the journey that Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and Hope (Summer Fontana) will take so they can save the fallen Mikaelsons. After all, Hope is a Mikaelson and no matter what she does, she will always be tied to the family since it is Klaus' (Joseph Morgan) blood that runs in her veins. How will Hope's hybrid powers help in getting her father out of his pain-induced coma? Will she be strong enough to help her dad recover?
