Things are still intense in "The Night Shift" as a fireworks explosion endangers one of their own.

After last week's intense two-hour episode, "The Night Shift" returns with another powerful show. Episode 7, dubbed "By Dawn's Early Light," will see TC (Eoin Macken) and Topher (Ken Leung) rushing to a concert when a fireworks explosion injures hundreds. While they set off to save lives, another massive explosion causes more problems and endangers one of their own. Viewers will also be treated to the familiar face of Syd (Jennifer Beals) as she lends the doctors of San Antonio Memorial a hand. The episode will also see Paul (Robert Bailey Jr) and Shannon (Tanaya Beatty) working together on a patient and realizing that they have a lot in common. Meanwhile, Jordan (Jill Flint) and Scott (Scott Wolf) treat one of the patient's from the explosion, but an issue that has been simmering between them boils over.

A trailer for the upcoming episode shows Topher running toward a truck with a fire extinguisher. The next scene shows the truck blowing up and throwing the doctor backward. A panicked TC is seen trying to bandage someone's injuries. It appears serious as there's a lot of blood. While the patient wasn't shown, there's a chance it might be Topher as the clip ends with the doctor seemingly in pain. It has been teased that Topher might ignore his injuries and continue to work, a situation that will force TC's hand as he confronts his friend.

With the doctors swamped with patients from the concert, Syd's expertise is more than welcome. The last time viewers saw the army doctor was back in episode 2, when Drew (Brendan Fehr) was sent back Stateside while she took his place. Now Syd is back home and trying to figure out what's best for her and her daughter. Drew will reportedly try to help but might just make things worse.

Speaking of Drew, fans have been waiting to see how the doctor and his husband Rick are handling married life. Luckily, they won't have to wait long as Rick (Luke Macfarlane) is set to make an appearance later on in the season. The couple will reportedly make plans to adopt a young boy.

NBC will be airing episode 7 of "The Night Shift" on July 6 at 9 p.m.
