'The Last Ship' season 3 spoilers: Chandler to choose between personal, moral priorities

(Facebook/TheLastShipTNT)The quest to save the world continues in "The Last Ship" season 3.

The Americans owe Captain Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) and his squad on the USS Nathan James a lot for becoming instruments in finding the cure for the dreaded virus in "The Last Ship." The soldiers have been selfless with their determination to save as many countrymen as they could. The upcoming season will test that altruistic nature though, as the squad will have to face a huge roadblock.

The promo for the new season has been released and fans are raving about the new obstacles that Chandler and his team will be facing. After securing the cure, they all breathed a sigh of relief. While preparing for its distribution to the US cities, a piece of bad news will reach the headquarters. In the clip, President Michener (Mark Moses) will tell Chandler that rumors claim that the virus has mutated and people are already being affected in Japan.

While the captain is absorbing the horrible truth, the president will deliver another problem onto his lap. Some of his men have been kidnapped and taken hostage by a group of terrorists. The insurgents soon send a video of their abductees, showing XO Mike Slattery (Adam Baldwin) and five others. Slattery is forced to say that they are prisoners of war. Although Chandler wants to sail the USS Nathan James and save his friends, the threat in Asia is also an emergency they cannot afford to set aside. Will he have to choose between the safety of his men and the greater good?

Meanwhile, showrunner Hank Steinberg told The Hollywood Reporter in September that it was going to be very difficult for Chandler and the rest to help the country and the world get back on their feet. The upcoming installment would reportedly be fraught with new problems that they would have to face alongside the old ones.

"When we come back in season three, we'll be coming back to very much a work in progress with lots of problems and, of course, new enemies and new issues, new complications and all those things," he said.

"The Last Ship" season 3 will return on June 12 at 9 p.m. EDT on TNT.
