Has "The Good Wife" just cast its new Kalinda? Following the departure of skilled actress Archie Panjabi and actor Matthew Goode, the show was left with a void. CBS is currently casting for roles to fill that void and the newest entrant to the legal drama is "Extant" actor Jeffery Dean Morgan.

TVLine reports that Morgan has been cast as the new Kalinda since he plays the role of Alex. Alex is described as a calm and experienced hourly investigator whom Alicia hires to work at her new firm. The publication also hinted that Alex may be Florrick's new love interest, following Finn's exit in the season six finale. However, the network has not confirmed whether he would be the former politician's lover in the upcoming season seven.

Executive producers Robert and Michelle King said in a statement, "We've loved and admired Jeffrey Dean Morgan for years. And we were thrilled to hear that Julianna did too, so it was a no-brainer to ask him to join our troupe."

Morgan is the second new series regular on "The Good Wife" season seven. British actress Cush Jumbo of "Torchwood" fame was the first series regular hire, CBS reportedly finalized her casting several months ago.

Another TVLine report specifies that actress Makenzie Vega, who essays the role of Alicia's daughter, will no longer be a series regular on the show. She will star in the upcoming season but her role seems to be limited.

Casting changes are being made not only as a result of stars Panjabi and Goode's exit but also in order to work around the cast's schedules and sustain storylines. Fans are also waiting to see if Alicia accepts Louis Canning's offer or rejoins Lockhart Agos.

"The Good Wife" season seven premieres this fall on Oct. 4 on CBS.
