"The Blacklist" is set to resume its third season in just a few days. When it returns, fans might finally learn the truth about Tom and his alleged mentor, setting the stage for the show's reported spin-off.

It seems NBC will once again make use of its tried-and-tested formula and will introduce a spin-off show for the popular crime thriller. This strategy has certainly been a successful one for the Peacock network, as it currently enjoys the ratings brought about by the Chicago franchise.

Variety reported that NBC is currently looking into a spin-off of "The Blacklist" that will star Famke Janssen. The "How to Get Away with Murder" actress has been tapped to play a character named Susan "Scottie" Halstead, whose relationship with Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) allegedly mirrors that of Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) and Raymond Reddington's (James Spader).

According to reports, the character is set to be introduced in episode 21 of "The Blacklist." The episode is set to be aired on May 5, while the spinoff's backdoor pilot will be aired on May 21. Interestingly, episode 22 would've only been a planted spinoff if the producers were able to cast Halstead in time. And luckily for them, Janssen agreed.

However, "The Blacklist" spin-off is not official yet. While NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke admitted that a spin-off is being discussed and explored, she said that they "have in no way committed to the spin-off series."

But if NBC does give the green light for the spin-off, Janssen will reportedly be joined by Eggold, who's rumored to play a big part in the series. "Unforgettable's" Tawny Cypress has also been cast and will play Nez Rowan. However, her character's story remains a mystery.

Fans will undoubtedly be happy to know that Mr. Solomon (Edi Gathegi) is also set to join the series. The Cabal hitman has been a big thorn in Red's side this season and his menacing but suave ways have made him a memorable and fun character. Mr. Solomon will once again be a big threat in episodes 17 and 18, the two-part "Mr. Solomon" arc.

"The Blacklist" will air a new episode of its third season on Apr. 7. Confirmation about the proposed spin-off will reportedly be known by May.
