'The Affair' 72nd Golden Globe Awards wins are Best Drama and Best Actress
Showtime drama series 'The Affair' had a big night at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards as it won Best Drama TV Series and Best Actress in a Drama TV Series for actress Ruth Wilson. 'The Affair' beat out other drama standouts 'Downtown Abbey', 'Game of Thrones', 'House of Cards', and 'The Good Wife' to claim the top honors for this year.
Series co-star Ruth Wilson had an equally impressive showing as she took the Best Actress nod ahead a star-studded group including Viola Davis (How To Get Away With Murder), Claire Danes (Homeland), Julianna Marguiles (The Good Wife), and Robin Wright (House of Cards). Lead actor Dominic West, best known for his work in the HBO series 'The Wire', was also nominated for Best Actor.
In her acceptance speech, Wilson shared that she had previously been nominated for an award for her role in the TV miniseries 'Jane Eyre' and is thankful that she was able to win this time around. She also gave kudos to the writers on 'The Affair' for one of the most complex and depressed characters she's ever played. Her screen counterpart Dominic West also received special recognition in her speech. "Dom, your ass is something of great beauty. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise," she gushed.
'The Affair' was created by writer-producers Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi. They had previously collaborated on the HBO drama 'In Treatment'. Treem also wrote for the first season of Showtime's 'House of Cards'. 'The Affair' uses a non-linear format wherein scenes shift back and forth from before and after the titular affair.
Filming for season two of 'The Affair' is well underway and should premiere sometime in early 2015. It will run for an additional ten episodes. The show has made the pilot episode available for viewing on video site YouTube, among other on-demand video sites.
