'Switched at Birth' season 5 spoilers, premiere date: When will Bay and Daphne return?

Fans of "Switched at Birth" will have to wait a little while to see the newest and last season of the award-winning series. Instead of a 2016 premiere, it was recently revealed that Freeform will air the new episodes in 2017.
Series creator Lizzy Weiss took to her Twitter account to announce the delay, asking for the fans' patience. In past installments, "Switched at Birth" usually aired its first half in the first quarter of the year, followed by the back half either in summer or fall. Last year, it wrapped up in October. It was also Weiss who told the fans that season 5 would be the last. It will have a total of 10 episodes only, with a 90-minute special at the end.
While waiting, followers of Bay (Vanessa Marano) and Daphne (Katie Leclerc) will wonder how the teens would fare in season 5. Will Bay have a new boyfriend? Will Daphne continue to have a smooth relationship with boyfriend Mingo (Adam Hagenbuch)? Last time, they were having problems with her decision to intern near Quinn. As for Lily (Rachel Shenton) and Toby (Lucas Grabeel), it will be exciting to learn how they have matured following the difficulties they faced in the previous season.
Meanwhile, Weiss told The Hollywood Reporter in August that the main characters would continue their adventures in college. She said they were in no hurry to use time jumps in the new episodes, just like what fellow Freeform series "Pretty Little Liars" did. This means there are still a lot of experiences that the girls will face as students and as young adults.
"I think time jumps are in the ether. I have heard what PLL is doing. I think it's super cool. For sure, it's something we have talked about and will continue to talk about. But we also feel like we just got to college, and I think PLL is skipping college altogether.... We still are enjoying seeing these girls make their way through college," she shared.
