'Switched at Birth' season 5 spoilers, update: Daphne gets in trouble with Mingo

(Facebook/SwitchedatBirth)Daphne and Mingo get in trouble in "Switched at Birth" season 5.

Daphne (Katie Leclerc) will wish she never returned to Kansas in the upcoming season of "Switched at Birth."

Freeform has released the teaser for the new installment and it shows that the girls are back in home ground. After the mysterious call they got, Daphne and Bay (Vanessa Marano) have returned from China. A lot of surprises are waiting for them at home. After a long time, they are finally with their family and everyone is happy. Daphne will not waste time and hangs out with boyfriend Mingo (Adam Hagenbuch). In the clip, they will attend a party.

Unfortunately for the couple, the fun they are expecting will turn into a bad dream. Both Daphne and Mingo will come wearing Lil Wayne costumes. They think it is cool and they are excited to mingle with the others. In the promo, one of their black classmates will accost them, pointing at their outfit. The girl will say that what they are wearing is an insult to the black community. The incident will quickly get out of hand when Daphne uploads a photo of her and Mingo via social media. The post will earn a lot of hate comments.

Aside from this, Daphne also has to deal with the news that her mother, Regina (Constance Marie), has a new boyfriend. She will be more surprised when she sees the guy who won Regina's heart. In the teaser, Regina is shown kissing a guy half her age. Luca (Michael Galante) does not seem to mind that he is in a relationship with a woman old enough to be his mother, though. Will Daphne and Bay also be okay with it?

Meanwhile, season 5 is expected to tie up loose ends left hanging from the previous installment.

"This entire season has a lot of returning story lines actually. We left a lot of loose ends open last season so now we're tying everything together. There's a lot of...it's very much like a new year because so much time has passed and the girls are at these new places in their lives," Marano said in an interview.

"Switched at Birth" season 5 premieres on Jan. 24 on Freeform.
