'Switched at Birth' season 5 news: Upcoming season to premiere in April

"Switched at Birth" is set to return for its fifth season, and as the premiere closely approaches, avid viewers are expecting to get the answers to the questions season 4 had left.
Season 4 finale last October was a real big cliffhanger, and series creator Lizzy Weiss had something to say about what is coming next for the season 5. In her interview with The Wrap, she said, "Not everything is fleshed out, but there is a general plan." She added that they had a million ideas for what the cliffhanger would be, and they may still use a few of those [ideas].
Meanwhile, in a separate talk with Variety, Executive Vice President of Programming and Development Karey Burke said, "Every season 'Switched at Birth' continues to deliver fresh, relatable storylines that tackle important social issues, reflecting what our audience experiences daily. We're excited to see where Lizzy will take these characters next."
In the last season, Daphne (Katie Leclerc) and Bay (Vanessa Marano) received a telephone call after spending 10 months in China, and Daphne seemed unhappy whatever news the caller had from the other line. The call is said to force the two to pack their bags and return home as soon as possible.
The first episode of season 5 is aptly titled "The Call." Some speculations are pointing out that they could be patching things up before a divorce comes to surface between their parents.
Another focus the fifth season may play around is how Toby Kennish (Lucas Grabeel) and Lily Summers (Rachel Shenton) deal with the struggles of being first-time parents.
As Weiss reiterated in her The Wrap interview, the arrival of their child was a big part of the last season and "has been part of our larger series conversation about difference."
No specific date has been announced yet for the season premiere, but it is expected to come in April this year.
