Steam Summer Sale 2016 starts today: sale details leaked
It's that time of the year again when gamers can finally use the money they have saved and splurge on the video games they have missed. Yes, the Steam Summer Sale is upon us!
While most people would head to the beach or a backyard BBQ for their summer fun, gamers know the season is for staying indoors and getting serious with the new games that will come courtesy of the Steam Summer Sale.
PayPal recently tweeted the news that most gamers have been waiting to hear — that the sale will start on June 23. There have been reports stating that the sale will run until July 4.
The tweet apparently confirms the rumors that surfaced in May when Reddit user MrFreemanBBQ posted what seems to be a confidential memo about this year's Summer Sale.
Despite the warning on the memo, it was inevitable that news as juicy as this one would eventually find its way online. Valve's management is probably not surprised as well, as details about its summer sale had always been leaked, usually by PayPal. The only difference is that PayPal's announcement this year appears to have Valve's blessing. IGN reported that the online payments company sent an email stating that they can "exclusively reveal that the Steam summer sale will go live on 23rd June."
Gamers have always looked forward to Steam's Summer Sale as they can usually score $20 to $30 discounts on relatively new games, with older titles and games from independent producers offered with even bigger discounts. There were even rumors that games like "Everybody's Gone to the Rapture," "Infamous: Second Son," "Resident Evil HD Remaster," and "The Evil Within" might be some of the titles that will be offered.
Gamers are also expecting to get good deals on Valve products like the Steam controller and Steam Link and discounted virtual reality games. However, it's unlikely that the HTC Vive would be discounted.
