'Star Wars Rebels' season 3 spoilers: episode 1 sees introduction of possible antagonist Bendu

(Facebook/starwarsrebels)"Star Wars Rebels" season 3 will premiere in the fall on Disney XD.

The "Star Wars" Celebration 2016 saw a huge surge of new and exciting content for "Star Wars Rebels" fans. And it looks like Grand Admiral Thrawn will not be the sole villain in the upcoming third season of the animated series.

The season 3 premiere of "Star Wars Rebels" will introduce a character named Bendu, who is neither a Sith or a Jedi. However, Bendu is well-versed with the use of the Force. According to Crave Online, Bendu is a "giant creature that helps to establish a deeper connection between the blinded Kanan and the Force." Bendu lies in the grey area of the Force, being neither pure evil nor good. Even though it is revealed that this giant does not explicitly side with Siths or Jedis, the publication notes that there is a convincing indication that he may turn into an antagonist.

On the other hand, it is widely known that Darth Maul will return to cause mayhem in season 3. A clip released by IGN from the "Star Wars" Celebration 2016 shows a blind Kanan and an older Ezra facing Maul once again. However, Maul manages to gain the upper hand on Kanan by closing the doors on him as he is sucked out into space.

Even though Thrawn is an exciting character in all his evil glory, there are those who look forward to Darth Maul's arc in the upcoming season. After all, Maul was thought to be dead, but has been revealed to be fully alive.

It was previously reported that there has been some talk about Maul going head-to-head with Darth Vader in combat. The battle will definitely be one to watch; however, executive producer and co-creator Dave Filoni has admitted that a face-off between the two Siths had never occurred to him. Fans shouldn't be disheartened, though, because Filoni is still open to the idea — perhaps in future seasons.

"Star Wars Rebels" will premiere in the fall on Disney XD.
