Ever since "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" premiered, fans have been wondering just who Rey is and how she is related to everyone else. It seems so arbitrary to have an unknown scavenger be the protagonist of the new era of "Star Wars," so there has got to be something there. "Star Wars: Episode 8" is said to shed some light on her identity.

At the end of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Rey met Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). This prompted many fans to believe that Luke is actually Rey's father. However, there are also those who believe that Rey may be a Kenobi.

Fans also wondered if Leia (Carrie Fisher) had known Rey as a child because of the hug they shared when they met. However, it has since been clarified that the two didn't know each other prior to that encounter.

On the other hand, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) also seemed to hint at the idea that he knew Rey before they had seen each other in the film. According to MoviePilot, though, director J.J. Abrams explained that Kylo Ren had only heard about Rey and was actually meeting her for the first time. Moreover, "Star Wars: Episode 8" is going to expound more on Kylo Ren and Rey's relationship.

Rey's identity is surely a hot topic, especially since she is a natural with the Force, which is also partly why a lot of people immediately suspected that she is a Skywalker. Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, teased in an interview with Vulture that her true parentage will be revealed soon enough.

"We will see in a year. Just sit tight on that question," the actress said.

Fans will also see the return of Finn (John Boyega) after having suffered injuries at the end of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." He will apparently be placed in a "bacta suit" and will be as good as new when the sequel lands.

"Star Wars: Episode 8" will premiere on Dec. 15, 2017.
